World Peace Sticks I invented my world peace sticks when a friend of mine was getting married and I desired to give him a gift that would help him to stay married. The entire story of the beginning of the World Peace Sticks is rather long, if you are interest, click here. It is my view of the current state of the world that if you are waiting on your President, Senator, Congressman or Governor to bring peace to your world then, in my opinion, you had better "pack a lunch" If any of these folks were capable of such a thing we would be at peace already. They are clearly not capable of accomplishing this task. Nor should we expect them to be. A wise Chinese monk once said "If the people of a community or nation are not at peace with themselves then it will be impossible to legislate peace." He went on to say "However, if the people of a community or nation are at peace with themselves then it will be equally impossible to legislate war!" I believe this completely and as such believe that we, as a nation, can achieve peace but we must each accept the responsibility of becoming more peaceful within our own lives, at home and in our work place. This, to me, is the supreme admonition given to us by Jesus when he stated that "We should remove the log from our own eye before we tell our fellow about the splinter in their eye." He did not, and never would (in my opinion) say to us that we must destroy another's home in the event we fear they may someday destroy our own. These "World Peace Sticks" I believe, can help us to begin our journey towards peace by gently programming us each morning to be more tolerant and peaceful. How do they work? World Peace Sticks consist of five sticks with four words (attitudes and emotions) on each for a total of 20 attitudes and emotions and one wooden holder with two chambers, one clearly labeled "accept" the other "reject" Each morning you take the five sticks and give them a gentle roll, then pick each one up individually, read the word, think about it and whether or not you accept this emotion or reject it. For example "love" I think you should accept and "fear" I would hope you would reject. After deciding if you accept or reject this attitude or emotion then you physically place the stick in the appropriate side of the box. After having gone through each of the five sticks you are ready for the rest of your day. The time consumed, approximately two minutes. The effect on your attitude for the remainder of the day, incalculable. There is something very powerful in taking a few moments at the beginning of each day and thinking about being more harmonious and peaceful. This effect is magnified with these sticks because as we pick each stick up we think about the word then take a physical action clearly telling our subconscious, we "accept" or we "reject" that attitude or emotion.
