Story Time Rocking Chair

Reading to my children was a very important part of the first seven or so years of their life. I didn't just read bedtime stories, I would read for 30 or 45 minutes every evening. We read the Lord of the Rings, the Chronicles of Narnia, Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer and countless other wonderful books.  The Story Time Rocker is a chair I invented when our third child, Rose was born and I did not have a lap large enough to comfortably hold three children when reading  to them. Rose is now nine years old and I miss reading to them. 

On the underside of each seat just before the chair leaves my shop I engrave: The date, chair number, the name of the chair, "This chair has been made especially for _____ by Hal Taylor" and I put a poem or quote that you can pick or I can pick if you prefer. Why do I do all this? I do it so that when the third or fourth generation owns the chair it will be a part of the love and history of the family and a way to remember those who came before who desired to surround themselves and their family with beauty.

The Story Time rocking chair won first place in an art show in Fredericksburg, VA one week after I completed it. The first place ribbon is shown in a couple of the photos. This rocking chair is every bit as comfortable and exquisitely crafted as all of my other rocking chairs, it simply has two more seats.
